how we price
We don't price access by the head.
Your whole team gets in. You pay to connect the people talking to customers, and for the answers your team actually uses, not per login.
What you pay for
- People whose customer activity powers the platform - reps, CS, channel, anyone talking to customers whose emails, calls, and CRM data Backstory ingests.
- The answers your team consumes - a deal summary, a risk surfaced, a question answered.
What you don't pay for
- Every viewer - managers, finance, deal desk, ops.
- Feature tiers - everyone gets the full product.

how it works
Capture the signal. Pay for the answer.
Three steps, from first call to renewal.
Capture
Connect the people who talk to customers: reps, CS, channel, partners. Backstory ingests their emails, calls, and meetings automatically. No logging, no behavior change.
Each connected person comes with a pre-packaged consumption allotment that pools into what your whole org can draw on.
Consume
Every risk surfaced, brief generated, or question answered draws from your pre-packaged consumption. Anyone in the org can ask, seat or no seat.
Usage means your team walks in informed instead of blind.
True Forward pricing
Most contracts true up: they look back and bill you for what you overused. True Forward looks ahead instead. Use more than your pre-packaged consumption? Nothing shuts off and nothing gets back-billed.
At renewal, you adjust forward to what you actually used - never back-billed for the term you're in, only sized correctly for the next one.
Why this model
What changes in your favor?
Most tools charge for every seat, used or not. Backstory works differently: you pay to connect the people talking to customers, then your whole team gets answers with no seat to buy.
Cost follows the value you get, not how many people can log in.

When everyone sees what's real, the whole org makes better calls.
Questions, answered.
Why usage-based instead of per-seat?
Answers only pay off when people use them. So we open access to the whole go-to-market team, not just the people with budget for a login, and you pay for what gets used.
What counts as an answer?
Reading a dashboard is free. You pay when Backstory delivers something your team uses: a risk surfaced, a deal summary, a coaching flag, a question answered.
Is my spend predictable?
Yes. Your consumption is pre-packaged at the start of the term, so you know the number before anyone uses a thing. Nothing meters against you mid-term and nothing gets back-billed, so the figure you sign is the figure you pay for that term. If usage runs ahead, you don't get a surprise invoice - you adjust forward at renewal to match what your team actually used. Budget once, no mid-year true-ups.
Who gets charged?
The people whose customer activity powers the platform carry the platform fee. Anyone who pulls an answer draws from your pre-packaged consumption, whatever their role, so seats stay free.
What's True Forward, and how does it save us money?
In your first term, consumption comes pre-packaged, sized as a starting estimate. If you use more, nothing shuts off and you're not back-billed. At renewal, your term adjusts forward to what you actually used. Because the initial package is set before anyone's used a thing, most teams start out paying less than a per-seat contract would have cost.
What if we use more than we packaged?
Good sign. More usage means your team is pulling more answers and getting more out of the platform. Nothing stops mid-term. At renewal you size forward to that real usage and keep paying only for what proves valuable.
What if we grow fast?
Connect more customer-facing people and your platform fee rises by those people, not by everyone watching. New managers, a bigger ops team, still free.
