We built this because
the answer should already be there.

Revenue teams ask the same questions every week. Which deals are at risk. What changed. Where to focus. Whether the forecast is real. Those answers exist - buried across email threads, CRM fields, call recordings, and meeting notes. We built Backstory to surface them.

People.ai is now Backstory. Same product. Same team. Same nine years of data. A name that finally says what we do.

Every pipeline review in the world has this moment.

Someone asks: "What's the backstory on this deal?" The room goes quiet. Someone opens a spreadsheet. Someone else checks their email. Twenty minutes later, you have a partial answer and three more questions. We built a product named after that moment - because solving it completely is the whole job.

What we believe about how revenue teams should work.

Answers, not dashboards

A dashboard tells you what happened. An answer tells you what to do. Revenue teams don't need more data to look at. They need someone to tell them what it means.

Your data, not generic benchmarks

Every team sells differently. The patterns in your own deal history are more useful than industry averages. We built Backstory to learn how your business wins - not how everyone else does.

No new habits for your team

Tools that require reps to change their behavior don't get used. We capture everything automatically. Your team works the way they already work. The data just gets better.

Nine years of data. One honest problem we had to fix.

We started as People.ai in 2016. For nine years we built revenue intelligence for some of the largest sales teams in the world - NVIDIA, OpenAI, Red Hat, HPE, Zscaler, Rubrik. We processed billions of signals across hundreds of thousands of deals. We learned what makes deals close and what makes them slip. We built technology that could see patterns most teams miss. And customers who used it ran their orgs off it.

But we had a problem. Every first meeting started the same way: twenty minutes of explaining what we were not. Not HR software. Not a people analytics tool. Not another AI platform that does everything for everyone.

The name People.ai put us in the wrong fight before we even said a word.
